The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) celebrated the 70th anniversary of the agency’s Epidemic Intelligence Services (EIS) program, which was created to investigate and respond to infectious diseases. Former CDC Director Dr. William Foege delivered the keynote address and remarked on the history and function of the program. He also spoke about the CDC’s role during the coronavirus pandemic and criticized elected leaders, whom he referred to as “bullies.” Current CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky and Principal Deputy Director Anne Schuchat also took part in the virtual event. close
